Mrs. Mayme VANDERGRIFF, 62, of Slaughters, died at 3:15 p.m. Monday inMethodist Hospital in Henderson after an illness of three months. Herhusband, Will Vandergriff, died June 7. Survivors are her mother, Mrs.Melissa WOODS, Slaughters; two sisters, Mrs. Effie ALTER, Slaughters, andMrs. Frank VAUGHT, Beltsville, Md.; and two nieces. Funeral services wereheld at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Gilead church, with the Rev. Carl SMITH,of Bremen, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Silas WOOD, 94, died at 6:15 a.m. Saturday in his home near Dixon.Survivors are four daughters, Misses Minnie and Bertha Wood, at home,Mrs. Tommy OWEN of Dixon, and Mrs. Mattie FISHER of Evansville; fivegrandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Mrs. Necie CHANDLERof Madisonville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Mt.Lebanon church, with the Rev. Nealey PEARCY of Dixon officiating. Burialwas in the church cemetery. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday,April 11, 1946. Compiler's note: Silas Woods was the son of Walter Woods(born abt 1822 TN; died 20 May 1879, Webster Co KY) and Martha OAKLEY.

WENT ON A PARTY BARGE ON SUNDAY EVENING. GOT INTO AN ARGUEMENT WITH ATHOMAS LITTRELL. LITTRELL DIDN'T LIKE THE WAY A COUPLE WAS "RAGGING"(DANCING) AND ANTON YOUNG GOT INTO AN ARGUMENT WITH HIM STATING IT WASNOT HIS BUSINESS HOW THEY DANCED. LITTRELL PUSHED YOUNG OFF THE BARGEAND HIS BODY WAS FOUND THREE DAYS LATER. HIS HEAD WAS BRUISED ANDBATTERED FROM THE PADDLE WHEEL OF THE BOAT. LITTRELL WAS SENTENCED BYTHE GRAND JURY FOR FIRST DEGREE MURDER.
